Louisiana's identity is found in the things that grow her, live here, and have come to represent home.
The Magnolia is our state flower and the Brown Pelican is our state bird. The pelican appears on Louisiana's state flag above the words "Union, Justice, and Confidence".
The Louisiana State Capitol rises 450 feet and 34 stories, making it the tallest state capitol in the United States. Governor Huey P. Long championed the project, and the New Orleans firm of Weiss, Dreyfous, and Siferth designed the Art Deco skyscraper.
The Capitol brought together leading artists and craftsmen. Sculptor Lee Lawrie created entrance reliefs depicting Louisiana's industries and resources. the Piccirilli Brothers Studio executed important bronze work for the building; their renowned studio also carved Daniel Chester French's monumental statue of Abraham Lincoln for the Lincoln Memorial.
From its entrance to ornament high on the tower, Pelican & Pine designs are inspired by the carved details of one of Louisiana's most recognizable landmarks.
